Interview with Warren Dykeman







q) What is your name and what do you do?


a)Warren Dykeman. I am a Graphic Artist and a Painter.

q)When did you really get into art?

a)Took a painting course in college While in Design School around 1994.

Studied painting under Ed Bereal of Los Angeles "Cool School"

q)How did you come to the realization that you should try your luck at art on a more serious level?

a)I just paint because I like it. I was asked to take part in BLK/MRKT 1 exhibit and book. Sales and other

exhibits started after that.

q)How did you discover the particular style that you have?

a)Just trial, error, chance and mistakes. Eventually came across some things I like.

q)How would you describe your style?

a)Figurative, Folk Art, Pop Art.

q)Who or what influences your art?

a)Mostly elements of graphic art that I come across. Recently, I have been looking

at a lot of info graphics. Painters that I have been looking at lately:

George Baselitz, Carlo Zinelli, Donald Baechler, Tim Hussey.

q)How often do you create a new piece?

a)About one every couple of weeks

q)What kind of success have you had with your art

a)Just had first solo show at BLVD Gallery in Nov 08.

q)What would be the ultimate goal for you and your art?

a)To paint and make art fulltime

q)What do you see as an accomplishment in the way of art?

a)To be a full-time working artist.

q)What kind of message, if any, do you try to convey through your art?

a)I am trying to convey interesting shapes, color combinations and compositions.

I am not trying to communicate a message that can be put into words.

q)Sum up your art in one word.

a)Folk
